A family saga, set in the North East of England, covering fifteen years in the lives of three generations of the women of Bramble House and those whose lives they touched. We meet matriarch Emma Funnell, with her firm hands on domestic and commercial affairs, her widowed hypochondriac daughter Victoria and her granddaughters - Lizzie, trapped in a loveless marriage and Peggy, a sixteen year-old pregnant schoolgirl trying to get up courage to tell her family.
