American writer Nathan Zuckerman is determined to possess the two hundred unpublished stories of a Yiddish writer who was killed by the Nazis. He journeys to Prague to meet the writer's estranged wife, Olga. The deal he strikes with this outrageous woman is to bring home many lessons for him - including the unforseen consequences of art.
