Affluent American suburbia in the late 1980s - a milieu in which the privileged mingle with all the confidence and ambiguous morality that power and good living brings. It is Ian and Glynnis McCullough's world. Loved and admired, after 26 years of marriage they think themselves as the very embodiment of the American dream. But there are flaws in the McCullough marriage, even as there are flaws in the Dream itself, and as Ian's 50th birthday approaches the cracks begin to show.
